Webchats

There are different ways connect to ScoutLink, but the easiest way to start is a webchat. This means that you do not have to install any software on your computer. If you become a regular user we recommend you use a fully functional stand alone IRC-Client. These are described in the "get connected" section, for several clients.

But now back to webchats. There are several different webchats you can use:

Scoutlink Webchat

The easiest to use is Scoutlinks own webchat, that you can find here.

Mibbit

The second easiest to use is "Mibbit", which you can find here.
Please remember that this webchat is provided by an external service provider, so ScoutLink has no control over the other IRC-networks that are listed, what your quit message is, or what happens to your data at the server from mibbit.com.
Mibbit is a server based client, which means that you can still use it if you are behind a strict firewall.

JAVA-Chat

The Java-Chat is a Java Applet that is embedded into an webchat. It is client based which means that if you are behind a strict firewall you may experience problems connecting. If you are unsure what to use, then just use this.
The Java chat takes a while to load and you may have to allow the execution of the programme.  Start chatting with the JAVA-Chat.

CGI-IRC

CGI-IRC is, like mibbit, a server based webchat, which means that you also could use it behind a strict firewall. All CGI-IRC that points to our servers are provided by us, and not by an external service provider like mibbit. Our CGI-IRC servers are often overloaded during JOTI, so please consider using another webchat, or preferably a stand alone IRC programme for JOTI. Start with CGI-IRC

Flash

Currently we are not able to provide flashpolicy daemons on all of our Servers. Therefore flash clients are currently not supported. Please just use one of the others listed on this page.

And now?

To start with it does not matter which chat you use: the result is the same, you connect to ScoutLink. This page only should help you and give you other possibilities if one of the webchats does not work.

If you are already connected to ScoutLink via a webchat and you don't know what to do next, try reading our "First steps" page.
